Michael Downey

Michael Downey trained as an actor at The Unitec School of performing and Screen Arts, and also holds a B.A in English Literature from The University of Canterbury and an M.A in Drama Studies from The University of Auckland. He co-founded The Rebel Alliance in 2005, their first production being his solo play, The Orderly, which premiered at The Herald Theatre in Auckland in March 2006. They followed this in July 2006 with A Night of French Mayhem, which he co-produced and appeared in as Peter. The Orderly was reprised for The Auckland Museum later that ear, and will tour to Bats Theatre in ellington in March 2007 as part of The Fringe Festival. Michael’s other Theatre credits include A Midsummer Night’s Dream with Theatre Stampede, The URBIS 24 Hour Theatre Project, The X Folios with N.Z Theatresports and Oedipus Rex with Free Theatre Inc. Screen credits include Power Rangers, Shortland Street, Interrogation, Street Legal and Xena: Warrior Princess. As a writer, his play Flower Day was produced for the 2005 Wellington Fringe Festival, and Aroha Our Idol is a finalist in Playmarket’s Flip the Script competition for 2006/7
